Press Release

An exhibition of over 64 beautiful pastel drawings of male and female dancers, sportsmen, portraits, animals and birds by Monte Hennegin is showing at the Glasgow LGBT Centre, 11 Dixon St., Glasgow (just off St . Enoch's Square) until 6 September. There will be a guest opening on Friday, 18 July at 7pm by the 80 year old artist who is also a musician, singer, poet, author and raconteur. The gallery is open during the day and the artist will attend on Monday afternoons.

Monte was born in Edinburgh and studied dance, art, piano and accordion in South Africa. He returned to Britain in 1959 as a stowaway and joined a troupe of musical clowns appearing on TV in the Rolf Harris Show, the Five O'clock Club and the David Nixon Show.

He attended life drawing classes at the John Cass Art School in London and soon Monte started his pastel drawing. As well as the works on show here, he has made fine pencil drawings of Glasgow Theatres, used in a calendar. For years he could be seen in the front row at the RSAMD Friday concerts sketching the performers.

With his casual modesty he says of his beautifully crafted pastels "They've been hanging around the flat for years and I never thought anything of them."

Limited edition copies of the pastel drawings will be for sale.
